VILLA D'ESTE: The Villa d'Este in Tivoli is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance and is included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Villa D' Este, rebuilt in 1550 by Cardinal Ippolito D'este is famous for its artistic wonders, and especially for the many water games that transport visitors to a palace of yesteryear... in 1918 after World War I, the Villa passed to the Italian State that began a major restoration job, fully restoring and opening it to the public. Another series of restorations was later executed after World War II to repair damage caused by bombs dropped on the complex during the last world war.

VILLA ADRIANA: Built between 118 d.c. and 138 d.c. by Emperor Hadrian, Villa Adriana is located at Tivoli (ancient Tibur); and is the most important and complex villa remaining of Roman antiquity, more extensive than Pompei. The state bought the area from the family Braschi in 1870 who was at that time the major owner of the lands. Excavations and restorations were undertaken which brought to light the amazing architecture of the buildings. In 1999 Villa Adriana was declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
