Rome transfer services: everything you need to know to enjoy your stay

Hello there, fellow traveler, are you departing from Ciampino airport or will you land in this airport to then spend a few days in the capital?

Well, in the next few lines we will tell you everything you need to know about Rome transfer services and the best ways to enjoy your stay in the Eternal City without logistic stress.

Ciampino airport “Giovan Battista Pastine” is located immediately after the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road and falls partly in the Municipality of Rome and partly in of Ciampino’s, being about 15 km from Termini Station.

It is the second Roman airport, but even so, it is a rather small one: do not expect all the glamorous shops and entertainment you had found in Fiumicino because there are just a few refreshment points and a couple of small shops.

Now, the question you may have in your head is: how do I get to arrive to the city center once I have my feet on the ground again?

Here are the options provided to you.

In ATAC You Trust, Buy Your Ticket And Hope To Get On The Bus

ATAC is the public transportation company in Rome and it is, by far, the cheapest way you have to get to the city center and vice versa.

However, reliability is not one of ATAC’s strongest suits, so do not expect a regular bus service waiting for you.

If you are in a rush, do not even take this option into account; if you want the full roman experience, try it and be patient.

As soon as you leave the airport you need to go to the number 4 stall of the bus area (in piazzale Leonardo da Vinci) and take the ATAC bus n.720.

The ticket is a normal BIT (integrated time ticket) which is bought at the airport and which – at a cost of € 1.50 – allows you to travel on the buses for 100 minutes from the first stamping and also applies to a ride on the Rome metro, even on multiple lines, without however coming out of the turnstiles.

The 720 bus will take you to the Metro B Laurentina stop and, if your ticket is still valid (hope 100 minutes have not elapsed since the first stamping), you can take the metro and reach the city center (there are stops at Colosseum, Circus Maximus and Cavour) and reach Termini station where you can possibly take line A and reach Piazza di Spagna, Piazzale Flaminio and the Prati area with the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s.

The 720 bus is active every day, including holidays, from 5:30 to 23:30, with a frequency of 20 minutes.

From Ciampino Airport To Rome By Private Bus: Nice And Easy, But Not The Best In Terms Of Comfort

The alternative would be to take the bus to reach Termini Station without having to change public transport.

From Termini Station it is possible to reach any place by metro, and with regional, national and international trains.

The companies that perform this service are:

  • Terravision which has a cost of € 5 and which leads to the Termini station. Tickets can also be purchased online at this link. Buses leave every 20 minutes. From the airport they are on duty from 8.15am and from Termini Station from 4.30am
  • SIT Bus Shuttle which costs € 6 one-way or € 9 return. Tickets can be purchased both on site and online. From Ciampino the buses leave from 7:45 am until 11:15 pm while from Termini Station from 04:30 am to 9:30 pm
  • Schiaffini which costs € 5.90 for a single ticket and € 9.90 for a return ticket. You can also buy tickets on their website.

New One: From Ciampino Airport To Rome With Ciampino Airlink (Bus + Train)

From 1 March 2019 there is a bus service which at € 2.70 leads without intermediate stops to the Ciampino train station, and with the same ticket allows you to reach Rome’s Termini station by train, and vice versa. Children travel for free, but there is always a stop in your journey.
